WHY THIS STORY -

ABOUT US -

Joe Foss - In the winter of 2022 I'm now 74 years old and thinking to myself it’s about time, if I'm really serious about this story I have been visioning for over twenty years, that begin moving forward to see what it would take to make this vision a reality. Knowing that this project far exceeded what I personally could do, I needed a small focused and committed team to make it happen, so I went online and started Googling the Columbia River Jetty system trying to find persons who were knowledgeable about this topic that I could call to see if they would be interested in partnering with me. I came across a PowerPoint presentation and news about Gary Kobes who is now one of our partners. I made contact with Gary via email and then was able to call him and he agreed to partner with me to help tell this story publicly and I told him that I was really wanting to focus on doing a a feature length documentary about the history of the Jetties and the mouth of the Columbia River and the history that surrounds that region. Finding Gary Kobes in February of 2022 really solidified that this over twenty year vision could now begin moving forward.

When I got home from Arizona that year I then called my friend Jeff Holt and said I'd like to talk about this project that I’m undertaking and he and I had conversation about that. Jeff gave it some thought and said he would be interested, so the three of us then started having Zoom calls in May of 2022. This project is so massive that we were overwhelmed at first and at many points along the way, but our passion to share this story via a documentary never wavered and continues pushing us forward.

We are not profit driven, but have a serious passion to see this story told on film for the first time. All of our efforts are voluntary and we are not expecting this to be a profitable venture for us, but we are hopeful for it to be self funding through sponsorships, donations, and possibly some grants. None of us are professionals at any part of this project, Gary is our amateur historian, Jeff is our amateur videographer, editor, and storyteller so we seemed to have a good mix of talents that could be brought together to assemble this story in such a way that we could eventually hand it over to a professional production house to create our documentary. We have had such great fun doing the initial things that we're still doing right now, that is continuing to locate relevant resources and asking questions to help flesh out this very compelling and interesting story.  Everyone that we have talked with has been very excited about this project and has offered to help us in whatever ways they can.
